JULY 29 2017 at Knysna Golf Club was a very special day.
It was the day that 154 golfers together many friends and family got together to raise funds for the Southern Cape Fire protection Association (SCFPA). After the events of June 7 and the devastating fires that swept through the Garden Route, Knysna Golf Club wanted to contribute in a meaningful and helpful way to our community.
So it was that The Phoenix Golf Day was created. And what a success.
Money was raised in many ways. All entry fees to the golf day were donated by the Club, prizes donated from many sources were raffled and there was an auction of the most valuable donations.
The staff of Seeff Properties presented the General Manger of the SCFPA, Mr Paul Gerber with a cheque for R25,000 at the prize presentation.
The total amount raised as of Monday 31st July stands at R301,000. All monies paid directly to club will be transferred to the SCFPA this week.
Although the object of the day was fund raising it was also a serious golf event. The format was better-ball stableford and the winners were Nigel Hanworth and Peter Simpson with a score of 49 points. The prizes being presented by the Vice Captain Kevin Horack.
And to add to the excitement of the day Sunet Venter, the Ladies’ Captain had a hole in one on the famous par-3 8th hole.
The Club would like to thanks all those who took part or donated prizes. Without you all this initiative would not have been such a success.
